Drugs and 18 guns were seized by police from an alleged illegal grow-op in Abbotsford last Thursday (July 13).

Const. Art Stele, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department (APD), said the BC Conservation Officer Service was executing a search warrant that day at a rural property in the 7400 block of Walters Street on Matsqui Prairie.

He said the service requested that APD members be on hand to “keep the peace.”

Stele said conservation officers then advised the APD members on scene that a large-scale marijuana grow-op was found on the property.

He said the APD’s drug enforcement unit obtained a search warrant of its own under the Cannabis Act, and determined that the operation was “over-producing outside of its legal confines.”

Stele said officers seized about 4,o00 marijuana plants, about two kilograms of suspected fentanyl, one kilogram of suspected cocaine, two handguns, three sawed-off shotguns, a rifle and extended loaded magazines.

He said 12 more lawfully possessed firearms were also seized “for public safety and safekeeping.”

The investigation is continuing, and no charges have yet been laid.

The BC Conservation Officer Service said it cannot comment on the nature of their investigation related to the property.
