Abbotsford Police Department was called to Abbotsford Senior Secondary School after a student released pepper spray in the school.

A handful of students had asthmatic reactions Thursday after a fellow student released pepper spray in Abbotsford Senior Secondary School during the lunch break.

One student was taken to hospital for decontamination following the incident, but no students sustained any injuries.

The school contacted Abbotsford Police and ambulance.

Const. Paul Walker said police arrested a 17-year-old student following the incident and are recommending a charge of mischief.

Walker said that shortly after noon, the student walked through the school's atrium, releasing bear spray.

According to Dave Stephen, school district 34 communications, the school's emergency fan system was quickly turned on and the air was replaced in short order.
