A five-vehicle collision on McCallum Road in Abbotsford on Monday afternoon sent two people to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash took place at about 4 p.m. in the southbound lane of MCallum Road just north of Vye Road. The route was being used by many motorists as a detour to Vye Road (which turns into Huntingdon Road) following a crash on Highway 1 that blocked the westbound lanes for over two hours.
An officer at the scene said a long line of traffic was waiting at the stop sign when a vehicle rear-ended the last car, resulting in a chain-reaction crash involving an additional three cars.
The officer said the driver of the last car indicated a water bottle had become stuck under his brake pedal just prior to the crash. He was ticketed for driving without due care and attention.
The driver and a passenger in one of the vehicles were taken to hospital.
Fire services, police and two ambulances responded to the crash.
