A Good Samaritan was assaulted on Monday after intervening in a verbal altercation at the Bourquin bus loop.

A man was assaulted with a weapon by two youths at the Bourquin bus loop after attempting to intervene in an altercation between the youths and two other men.

The incident occurred before noon on Tuesday at the bus stop near the Sevenoaks Shopping Centre.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the two young men had approached two other men who were seated, and accused them of looking at their girlfriends.

The conversation between the two groups began to escalate with the two youths getting agitated towards the men who were sitting.

At that time a Good Samaritan tried to intervene and calm things down, and told the young men to leave. They became combative with the Good Samaritan and when he indicated he was going to phone police, they knocked the phone out of his hand and began assaulting him.

A rider on a bus called 911 and Abbotsford Police units responded to the incident.

The two youth were taken into custody. MacDonald said both are young offenders and will be facing charges of assault and weapons possession.

The Good Samaritan sustained only minor injuries.
