Baby OK after car rolls down driveway in Abbotsford

The boy's dad left the vehicle idling while he ran back in the house for a moment.

A 10-month-old boy is doing fine after he was in a car that rolled down a driveway and crashed into an SUV on Sunday (Feb. 10).

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the incident took place at about 10:45 a.m. in an east Abbotsford neighbourhood.

He said the baby's dad had strapped him into his carseat in the back of the vehicle, in preparation for an outing.

The dad ran back in the house to grab his sunglasses, and left the car idling in the sloped driveway.

While the dad was gone, the sedan rolled down the driveway, across two lanes of traffic, and crashed into an SUV legally parked across the street.

MacDonald said the baby was not injured, and the family is fortunate that nothing more serious occurred. The man was ticketed for leaving a vehicle running and unlocked.
