Those travelling to the Abbotsford International Airshow this week, or even through the Fraser Valley, are being encouraged to plan ahead.

The city of Abbotsford put out a reminder to the public that the airshow will cause additional heavy traffic along Highway 1 through Abbotsford, and other major routes from Aug. 11 to 13.

Airshow attendees are encouraged to carpool with friends and family and use public transit whenever possible. Those using the airport for travel should adjust travel times to ensure they arrive on time.

There is a free BC Transit shuttle to the airshow, which connects to Route 66 Fraser Valley Express. The shuttle will run on Saturday, Aug. 12 and Sunday, Aug. 13, between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. This shuttle will leave from the Bourquin Exchange, with stops at Old Yale and Clearbrook, Maclure and Townline, as well as the Highstreet Mall, before arriving at the Abbotsford Airshow site.

Airshow organizers also put out a reminder that many roads will be closed throughout much of the weekend.
