Thousands of people flocked to downtown Abbotsford to take in a truly Canadian event on Saturday.

Flags waved and people donned red and white as the Canada Day parade rolled along South Fraser Way from Bourquin Crescent to Trethewey Street on July 1.

The day also included a marketplace with local artisans, non-profit organizations and local businesses, plus a community stage, food trucks and a new sensory-friendly zone at the Ag-Rec Building in Exhibition Park.

In the afternoon, people took in events at Rotary Stadium which included several festival zones and live performances by Thomas McNulty, Black Eyed Susan, Out of Many, the Learning Stars Academy, Jimi, Richard Tichelman and Becca Hess.

A laser light show was scheduled for 10 p.m. at Rotary Stadium.
