The Matsqui-Sumas-Abbotsford Museum is getting $40,000 from the provincial community gaming grants program.
“This money allows us to provide not only museum and archival services to the public, but also programs such as our annual Heritage Fair,” said executive director Dorothy van de Ree. “We provide educational tours and heritage programming to all age groups on site, as well as in schools and seniors homes. We also serve as the memory of the community by publishing historical books about our pioneers."
The MSA Museum Society has been serving the community since 1969.
“Community Gaming Grants provide much needed financial assistance to cultural groups and organizations.” said Abbotsford South MLA Darryl Plecas.
These grants have been awarded under the arts and culture category of the program, which allows non-profit organizations to apply for provincial gaming revenues from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. Grants are also awarded in the sport, public safety, environment and human and social services categories.
In the 2012/13 fiscal year, the government distributed $135 million in gaming grants for eligible community programs and services.
