Four Abbotsford groups receive $326K in community gaming grants

Funding announced for organizations in environment and public-safety sectors

Four Abbotsford organizations have received a total of $326,000 in provincial community gaming grants for public safety and the environment.

The grants were announced Thursday (March 23) as part of $12.7 million awarded by the provincial government to not-for-profit organizations.

A total of $6.8 million went to 131 groups in the public-safety sector. The other $5.9 million went to 149 organizations for animal protection, conservation and environmental awareness programs.

In Abbotsford, a public-safety grant of $84,000 went to the Abbotsford Restorative Justice and Advocacy Association, while the Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association received $27,000.

An environmental grant of $180,000 went to the Abbotsford-based Wild Sheep Society of B.C., and $35,000 was awarded to the Circle F Horse Rescue Society.

“Grants like these provide crucial support for so many essential organizations in our community,” said Pam Alexis, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission.

“Whether it’s improving animal welfare, environmental protection or public safety, these organizations make our community better.”
