Sinkhole creates problems at Granville Island

Some cars have been allowed to leave the island, very slowly. But none have been allowed to go in

Those wishing to stroll around Granville Island in Vancouver on Saturday afternoon could not get there by car because of a sinkhole.

Officials encouraged people to park off-island and walk, or use a bike or the bus. The False Creek Ferries added extra sailings.

City staff say it’s because of a burst sewer pipe. Cars were later allowed off the island, albeit it very slowly.
