Abbotsford’s Willow Video has been gaining attention online, but not for its selection of video game and movie selection.
A recent thread on the Abbotsford Reddit message board has pointed out the fact that the outside of the popular shop is adorned with posters from games that are rather old.
The games featured on the outside of the store include: Mario Kart Wii (released 2008), Grand Theft Auto IV (2008), The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (2006), Rock Band 2 (2008), Call of Duty: World at War (2008), Guitar Hero World Tour (2008) and Tomb Raider: Underworld (2008).
Each game featured outside the store is 11 years old or more.
Some Reddit users seem to enjoy the nod to classic games.
“I love that they haven’t changed the signs,” states user AyeBB8. “And I think willow will be open for a long time, every time I go in there there’s always at least one other customer. I love renting movies and especially games from them, I haven’t payed for a new switch game since I’ve gotten the console I go to willow to rent them. Saves me tons of money.”
Another user seems to think the store having such old advertising is bad for the downtown neighbourhood.
“I used to love this store as a kid,” typed user hi-im-sweetiepie- “Coming back home for Christmas, I was amazed that Willow still hasn’t updated their advertising from the early Wii/PS3/Xbox 360 era. IMO it paints a bad stain on downtown Abby.”
The Willow Video Abbotsford location, found at 2603 West Railway Street, is one of two locations. The other Willow Video is found in Langley.
The chain is one of the few remaining stores that rent both movies and video games.
