It’s been a banner year for softball players out of Abbotsford’s Yale Secondary, and four more seniors have landed university scholarships.

Makayla Kowaliuk, Callie Ward and Jordana Goncalves are headed south of the border. Shortstop Kowaliuk has signed with the University of New York at Buffalo, an NCAA Div. I school, while Goncalves, a centre fielder/pitcher, is headed to Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, an NAIA program. Ward, who plays third base, is ticketed for Georgia Highlands College.

“It’s a different environment, and I’m excited about that,” Ward said.

Catcher Lynsey Christianson is staying in B.C. – she’s headed down the road to Douglas College in New Westminster.

“It’s nice to stay close to home – I’m pretty close with my family,” she enthused.

The quartet join fellow Yaleans Taylor Lundrigan and Katherine Murnaghan, who signed with Simon Fraser University back in December, in the post-secondary softball ranks.

“It’s kind of neat that they’ll all grown up together and are now getting this opportunity,” said Yale softball academy coach Jen Schreyer.
