Daniel Dyck of Abbotsford took first place at a provincial wakeboard tour stop in Kamloops last week.

The 21-year-old is an accomplished rider who won the amateur title at Wakestock in Toronto in 2008. That victory earned him the right to compete in the pro division at World Wakeboard Association events.

In recent years, though, he's dialed back his competition schedule to focus more on coaching.

"It was good to get back into it," he said, reflecting on the victory in Kamloops.

"I was riding on the pro tour, going down to Florida and training, but the last couple years I've been doing more coaching. But I definitely wanted to still do some local stuff."
