Nathan Frenette is heading to Simon Fraser University.
The Grade 12 W.J. Mouat Secondary student accepted a football scholarship offer from the Burnaby school earlier this week, and will join the Clan starting in the fall.
Frenette suited up for the Hawks senior varsity team on both the offensive and defensive line this past season, and was a team captain for the club. He was named the most outstanding lineman on the Hawks for 2017, and was also recognized as a AAA all-conference east division lineman.
The six-foot-three, 277 pound Frenette received offers from U Sports, NCAA and NAIA programs, but decided to join SFU to remain close to home and to compete in the NCAA Division 2 conference.
It’s expected that Frenette will primarily play offensive line for the Clan. SFU posted a record of zero wins and 10 losses in 2017, and open the regular season at home on Sept. 1.
Congratulations to Nathan Frenette for committing to @SFUFootball ! We are proud of you! @BenLypka @BCHSFB pic.twitter.com/XYKLoBK4X7
