UFV women's hoopsters impress in preseason

The University of the Fraser Valley women's basketball team won two of three games at a preseason tournament at the University of Regina.

The Cascades fell 75-58 to the host Cougars in their opener on Friday, despite 13 points and seven rebounds from Sarah Wierks.

UFV bounced back to beat the Alberta Pandas 65-55 on Saturday, and they edged the Carleton Ravens 59-58 on Sunday. Courtney Bartel played the hero against the Ravens, hitting two free throws with less than five seconds remaining to lift UFV to victory. Aieisha Luyken led the way with 16 points and four steals vs. Alberta, while Kayli Sartori's 18 points set the pace against Carleton.
