The UFV Cascades men’s basketball team has signed Vancouver College’s Vince Velasquez.

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades have announced the signing of Burnaby’s Vince Velasquez for the 2024-25 season.

The 6-1 point guard is a 2024 Vancouver College graduate and also played with Drive Basketball club.

UFV head coach Joe Enevoldson stated that his newest recruit’s consistency and steadiness on the court stands out.

“We watched him play a lot and always had the same impression. We were very impressed with his demeanour, his consistency, and his steadiness at an important position. Everything from him was always just a model of consistency.”

“Everything we have heard about Vince is that he is a great teammate, a willing worker in the weight room and, is going to be great in the community. He is a high character guy for us, and at that position you need to be able to lead your team.”

Velasquez helped Vancouver College place eighth at the 2024 BC School Sports 4A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament. One of his highlights of 2024 was knocking down six three-pointers against Tamanawis on day two of the provincial tournament. He was named a Sea to Sky conference all-star this season.

He was also named the best defensive player at the 2022 Junior Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament.

Velasquez joins a Cascades team that finished in 12th place with an 8-12 record in 2023-24. The team scored an upset win over the Regina Cougars in the Canada West play-in, but then fell in the quarter-final round to the Winnipeg Wesmen.
