Twisters gymnasts terrific at home meet

Athletes from Twisters Gymnastics Club turned in a series of excellent results at their home meet last weekend.

Vanessa Beckman of Twisters Gymnastics Club showcased her tumbling skills during the floor routine at the 17th annual Twisters Invitational meet last weekend. The event drew over 650 athletes from across the province to the Ag-Rec Building.

Athletes from Twisters Gymnastics Club turned in a series of excellent results at their home meet last weekend, highlighted by five athletes cracking the Team B.C. roster for the Western Canadian Championships.

On the boys side, Dawson Friesen, Cohen Kiers, Kyle Machibroda-Ames and Steven Chaplin all qualified for Westerns, while Andry Friesen will represent Twisters on the girls side.

Chaplin was dominant in the national youth division, winning six gold medals (floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, horizontal bar, and all-around) and a silver on parallel bars.

Dawson Friesen won gold on vault and bronze on horizontal bars and all-around in the high performance argo category. Kiers, in the same division, took silver on pommel horse, p-bars and horizontal bar, and bronze all-around. Machibroda-Ames won bronze on pommel horse and rings in the national open level.

Other all-around medallists included Lanna Hellewell (gold, KIP 2), Jeremy Gaspar (gold, Level 3), Zoe Rumsby (gold, KIP 2), Nicolas Garfias (silver, high performance tyro), Kimberly Vander Meulen (silver, Level 2 tyro), Tamara Skulstad (silver, provincial 3 argo), Jonathan Osers (bronze, junior and senior), Doug Carroll (bronze, Level 3), Jadyn Ansell (bronze, provincial Level 2 tyro), Megan Maclellan (bronze, KIP 2), Alliyah Kindred (bronze, KIP 2), Ella Palmer (bronze, provincial 3 argo) and Megan McLellan (bronze, KIP 2).
