Stellar race for Siemens

Alex Siemens of the Valley Royals track and field club turned in a personal-best finish en route to victory in the 800 metres at the recent Ocean Athletics meet in White Rock.

Alex Siemens of the Valley Royals track and field club turned in a personal-best finish en route to victory in the 800 metres at the recent Ocean Athletics meet in White Rock.

Siemens, running the 800m for the first time this season, won the event in 2:17.83. The 16-year-old also earned a silver in the 4x400m relay, running with Hailey Gibson, Kayla Lennea and Janelle Hay.

Royals teammate Chantel Desch was a double medallist in White Rock, finishing first in the 200m (25.83) and third in the 100 meters (13.05).

Aisha Klippenstein placed second in the 100m with a very creditable 12.63 performance, while Oliver Jorgensen (4:37.2) and Jimmy Stewart (4:42.5) both recorded personal bests in the 1500m.

Gibson (100m), Zach Choboter (100m), Thomas Laurie (100m hurdles) and Johannes Price (110m hurdles) also raced their way to gold medals in various age classes for the Royals, while Hay (1500m) and Travis Vugteveen (800m) brought home silver medals.
