Abbotsford pro Josh Taylor crushed the field at the Vancouver Golf Tour's Royalwood Classic in Chilliwack on Tuesday.

Taylor – the older brother of former world No. 1-ranked amateur Nick Taylor – shot a seven-under 65 to finish five strokes clear of fellow Abbotsford native Brett Webster and Isaac Weintraub, who tied for second.

KARATE CHAMP COMING

Former World Karate Federation kumite champion Yorihisa Uchida is hosting a series of seminars in conjunction with Abbotsford's Shotokan Karate Dojo next month.

The Japanese karate expert will be at Robert Bateman Secondary for evening sessions on May 6 (6:30-8 p.m., all belts), May 9 (6-7 p.m., white belts, red belts and children age 4-6; 7:05-8:15 p.m., yellow belts and above) and May 10 (6:30-7:45 p.m, all belts; 8-9 p.m., brown and black belts).

SPORTS CAR CLUB CELEBRATES

The Sports Car Club of B.C. (SCCBC) celebrates its 60th anniversary May 14-15, with two full days of competition at Mission Raceway Park.

The weekend's action features the second round of the Confederation of Autosport Car Clubs 2011 championship, along with Race 2 of the Westcoast Sportscar Championship.

This weekend the gates open at 9 a.m. Parking, grandstand seating and paddock access is all included in the ticket price, which is $5 on Saturday, $10 on Sunday, or $25 per car load.

LEDGEVIEW TEES UP JUNIOR GOLF SEASON

The junior golf program at Ledgeview Golf and Country Club begins its spring season this week.

Practices for athletes aged 13-18 run on Tuesday afternoons from May 10 to June 14. Golfers aged 5-12 practice on Saturdays from May 7 to May 28.

MAPLE LEAF GOLF TOUR COMES TO ABBOTSFORD

Ledgeview is hosting a Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour event May 7-8, and local junior golfers are invited to attend.

The Lindsay Kenney Classic is part of a 54-tournament series which runs across Canada, and male and female golfers aged nine to 19 are eligible. For more information, visit maplejt.com.
