A tremendous all-around performance from Mark Village led the University of the Fraser Valley men’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over SFU.

A tremendous all-around performance from Mark Village led the University of the Fraser Valley men’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over the Simon Fraser Clan in exhibition action on Wednesday.

Village was flawless in goal in the first half, then scored the game-winning goal while playing in the field in the second half. He combined with Jacob Kubanski, who tended goal in the second half, on the shutout.

The Cascades head to Victoria this weekend to participate in the Keg Classic tournament.

SKILLEN LEADS THE WAY TO GOLD

Joe Skillen of Abbotsford helped the BC Surrey Eagles sledge hockey team win the Western Canadian championship last week.

The Eagles beat the Edmonton Impact 2-1 in a best-of-three series in Calgary, and Skillen earned player of the game honours in both of the Eagles' victories.

HEAT HOSTING POST-GAME CONCERTS

The Abbotsford Heat are hosting a pair of post-game concerts in the coming weeks.

In partnership with Country 107.1, the Heat are presenting a performance by Aaron Pritchett following their March 24 game vs. the San Antonio Rampage at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. The concert is part of the Country Night promotion, which also features live music by Natasha Zimbaro at 5:30 p.m. and special prize giveaways. The opening faceoff is at 7 p.m.

On April 13, in in partnership with Sonic FM, the Heat are set to host a concert by Abbotsford native Victoria Duffield following their 7 p.m. game against the Toronto Marlies. Fans are encouraged to bring food or cash donations for the Abbotsford Food Bank for a chance to win a private meet and greet with Victoria after her show.
