Royals crown award winners

The Valley Royals track and field club handed out their annual awards last Wednesday, and Ruky Abdulai took home the top prize.

The Valley Royals track and field club handed out their annual awards last Wednesday at the Legacy Building, and Ruky Abdulai took home the top prize.

Abdulai, who represented Canada in the long jump at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was named the Royals' outstanding senior athlete. She won gold in the heptathlon at the Canadian championships last year and finished 13th at the World Championships.

A complete list of Royals award winners is as follows:

Rookie of the year: Aiden Bingert

All-around athlete, junior development: Gabrielle MacGregor and Parker Wakelyn

All-around athlete, senior: Natasha Miller

Most improved athlete, junior development: Rachel Choboter

Most improved athlete, youth: Sarya Ross

Most improved athlete, junior: Travis Vugteveen

Inspirational athlete, junior development: Jensen Bako

Inspirational athlete, midget: Hailey Gibson

Inspirational athlete, youth: Alexandria Siemens

Inspirational athlete, senior: Brianna Kane

Outstanding athlete, junior development: Hannah Konrad

Outstanding athlete, midget: Jeewan Grewal

Outstanding athlete, youth: Chantel Desch

Outstanding athlete, senior: Ruky Abdulai

Service to the club: Twyla Ross, for her tireless work in organizing volunteers before and during events hosted by the club.
