Power-play proficiency paces Pilots past Icebreakers

The Abbotsford Pilots got a pair of power play goals late in the third period to rally for a 4-3 victory over the Mission Icebreakers in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Thursday.Justin Dorey and Kevin Lourens, with his third of the game, scored the decisive goals for the Pilots, who claimed a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven. Abbotsford out-shot Mission 41-24.Game 3 goes tonight at 7:30 p.m. at MSA Arena. The Pilots’ power play has been downright deadly in the series – all three goals in Tuesday’s 3-2 opening-game win came with the man advantage. Pilots head coach Jim Cowden said his team’s power play proficiency can be directly traced to the recent return from injury of snipers Lourens and Riley Lamb.”We’ve got our guys back, and we’re just getting them to work as a unit,” Cowden said. “We’re finding ways to win, and I think the power play can be even better.”
