Miller to helm Canadian men's soccer squad at Gold Cup

Colin Miller’s stint as interim head coach of the Canadian senior men’s soccer team has been extended to include the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Colin Miller’s stint as interim head coach of the Canadian senior men’s soccer team has been extended to include the CONCACAF Gold Cup, set to begin in Pasadena, Calif. on July 7.

Miller, an longtime Abbotsford resident, currently coaches FC Edmonton, a North American Soccer League side.

Team Canada, without a permanent head coach since the resignation of Stephen Hart in October 2012, has tapped Miller to helm the team for a series of camps and friendlies this year.

Canada will kick off the Gold Cup on July 7 vs. Martinique in Pasadena, then play Mexico on July 11 in Seattle and Panama in Denver on July 14. The top two teams from each group, as well as the two highest-seeded third-place finishers, will advance to the knockout stages.

“I feel very privileged and grateful to have been chosen to lead Canada into this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup,” Miller said.

Canada won the Gold Cup in 2000 and has made it as far as the semis in 2002 and 2007. Sportsnet will broadcast Canada’s games at the tournament.
