Mamba Fight League debuting in Langley on Friday

Abbotsford combat sports legend Kultar “Black Mamba” Gill is bringing the 13th event of his Mamba Fight League promotion to the Langley Event Centre on Friday (Sept. 29).

The event features mixed martial arts, boxing and kickboxing matches, including a one-night kickboxing grand prix tournament that will see the winner take home $5,000.

The promotion originally formed in Abbotsford and last ran the Abbotsford Centre in 2021. Earlier this year the promotion made its debut in Kamloops.

As in past MFL events, there are several Abbotsford talents on the show. There are currently four locals schedule to make the walk at MFL 13.

Abbotsford’s Austin Batra challenges Saskatchewan’s Caleb Ermine in a three-round pro MMA fight in the 155-pound division. Batra had a thrilling win just 20 seconds into his amateur MMA fight at MFL 3, but as a pro he has a 0-3 record. He last fought on July 7, 2022. Ermine has a record of 1-2 and won his last pro bout on Dec. 17, 2022.

Abbotsford’s Ashley Watkins battles Surrey’s Sonia Blade in a three-round advanced MMA bout in the 115-pound division. Watkins previously competed at MFL events in kickboxing and earned one wins and two losses. She lost her amateur MMA debut on June 9. Blade went 4-0 in kickboxing bouts and this is her amateur MMA debut.

Other locals competing include: Abbotsford’s Arjot Gill vs. Dionte Hurtado (novice MMA, 190-pounds) and Abbotsford’s Rizwan Qureshi vs. Kanwarsher Randhawa (novice kickboxing, 215-pounds).

Other scheduled matches include: Brayan Hernandez Pintor vs. Buneet Bisla (pro boxing, 172-pounds), Brian Crowe vs. Jag Bhullar (pro MMA, heavyweight), Dmytro Paintnytski vs. Milad Baranghari (pro kickboxing, 155-pounds), Odai Abozraiq vs. Sasha Tadayoni (pro kickboxing, 155-pounds), Luiz Paloato vs. Harkerat Nijjar (pro boxing, 168-pounds), Justin Cheng vs. Amir Ghassemi (advanced kickboxing, 155-pounds), Luis Ricardo Ramirez vs. Aso Palani (pro MMA, 140-pounds) and Michael Perkins vs. Reece Anderson (novice kickboxing, 160-pounds).

The tournament features four men in a single elimination event. Ali Jardi battles Bryan Burgos and Kuchlong takes on Phil Engeroff in first round matches. The winners will then square off for $5,000.

Doors open for the event at 6 p.m., with the first fight occurring at 7 p.m. The show will also be airing on the FITE TV app.
