The Lafarge Cross-Country Grand Prix is off to the races.

The Valley Royals' popular annual series, which draws upwards of 800 runners in Grades 4-8 to Clearbrook Park each week, held the first of four races last Wednesday.

On the girls side, winners included Emily DeJager of Abbotsford Christian (Grade 4), Madeline Wolfe of Auguston Traditional (Grade 5), Marquesis Haintz (Grade 6), Rachel Mortimer of Chief Dan George (Grade 7) and Sienna Lenz of Abby Middle (Grade 8).

Boys winners were Lockhart MacGregor of Auguston (Grade 4), Ben Pike of King Traditional (Grade 5), Benjamin Gosson of Abby Christian (Grade 6), Parker Wakelyn of W.A. Fraser (Grade 7) and Noah Nickel of MEI Middle (Grade 8).

The series continues the next three Wednesdays (Sept. 25, Oct. 2 and Oct. 9) at Clearbrook Park.
