The Abbotsford Junior Cardinals are perched comfortably in fourth place in the B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League after splitting a doubleheader with the Victoria Junior Mariners last Saturday.
The Mariners won the opener 1-0 in an extra-innings thriller, getting to Abbotsford starter Alex Gibbons for the game’s lone run in the top of the ninth. It was a tremendous outing from Gibbons, though, as he went the distance while striking out four and surrendering just five hits.
The Junior Cards bounced back with a 6-3 win. Cam Wiens and Sheldon Poirier had three hits apiece, and Poirier and Jereymi Longpre each drove in two runs. The victory boosted the Junior Cards’ record to 9-6 on the season.
