Howard, Sigfridsson leading the way at Masters Grand Slam of Curling

Glenn Howard and Margaretha Sigfridsson are the class of the field through nine draws at the Masters Grand Slam of Curling in Abbotsford.

Glenn Howard and Margaretha Sigfridsson have proven to be the class of the field through nine draws at the Masters Grand Slam of Curling in Abbotsford.

Howard's Ontario rink is the lone undefeated squad on the men's side at 3-0, while Sweden's Sigfridsson foursome shares the same distinction on the women's side with a 4-0 record.

Howard, in his lone game of the day on Thursday, scored three in the seventh end to beat Winnipeg's Mike McEwen 5-2.

Sigfridsson, meanwhile, routed Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa 7-1 in the afternoon, and capped the day by racing out to a 7-0 lead over Ontario's Rachel Homan – the defending Masters and Scotties Tournament of Hearts champ – and wrapping up a tidy 8-2 win in just five ends.

The action continues on Friday at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, with the last three draws of the round robin portion of the event running at 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The top eight men's and women's teams qualify for Saturday's playoffs, and tiebreakers run at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening.
