The Abbotsford Heat recalled forward David Eddy from the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL on Thursday morning.

The Abbotsford Heat recalled forward David Eddy from the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL on Thursday morning.

Eddy signed as a free agent with the Calgary Flames, the Heat's NHL parent club, in March 2012 following three seasons at St. Cloud State University. He immediately reported to Abbotsford, played four regular season games and scored his first professional goal.

This fall, Eddy stuck with the Heat out of training camp, but got into just two games while battling injuries and Abbotsford's NHL lockout-induced depth up front.

He was sent down to Utah on Dec. 14, and posted two assists and 15 penalty minutes in three games.

Eddy will join the Heat in Chicago today, as they prepare for a Saturday road game vs. the Chicago Wolves, the Vancouver Canucks' affiliate.

VAN DER GULIK HONOURED BY AHL

Abbotsford native and former Heat forward David Van der Gulik was named the AHL's player of the week for the period ending Dec. 23.

In three games on the week, Van der Gulik scored three goals and tallied four assists for seven points to go along with a plus-5 rating for the Lake Erie Monsters.

The 29-year-old entered the Christmas break with eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 29 games with the Colorado Avalanche affiliate this season, his seventh professional campaign.

Van der Gulik has 37 career NHL games with Calgary and Colorado on his resumé, notching two goals and nine assists.
