The Abbotsford Heat's offence is officially on fire.
Two days after posting a season-high five goals in a win over the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Heat did that one better on Sunday afternoon, knocking off the Hamilton Bulldogs 6-2 at Copps Coliseum.
The common denominator in both high-output wins has been Krys Kolanos, who made his Heat debut against Grand Rapids on Friday after recovering from lingering lower-body injuries. Kolanos notched four points against the Griffins, and racked up three more (one goal, two assists) against Hamilton on Sunday.
In seven games without Kolanos, the Heat scored 12 goals. In two games with him, they have 11.
Veteran centre Ben Walter has already formed a tremendous chemistry with Kolanos, and he posted his second straight three-point outing with a goal and two assists.
Rookie forward Dustin Sylvester had the first multi-goal game of his AHL career, scoring twice, while John Armstrong and Clay Wilson also bulged the twine for Abbotsford.
Olivier Fortier and Andreas Engqvist replied for the Bulldogs.
The Heat special teams continued to shine – the power play went 2-for-6, and the penalty killers erased all four Bulldogs man-advantage opportunities.
Leland Irving started his ninth consecutive game between the Heat pipes, and he turned aside 26 of 28 shots to pick up his sixth win.
The Heat (6-3-0-0) are sticking around Hamilton for a Tuesday rematch with the Bulldogs. They return home for a two-game set with the Oklahoma City Barons at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (Thursday and Saturday, 7 p.m. both nights).
