Hawks fall in Cowichan

Mouat junior boys basketball team reaches finals in Duncan

The W. J. Mouat Hawks junior boys basketball team came up short in the finals in Duncan.

Participating in a tournament at Cowichan Secondary on Jan. 29 and 30, the Hawks opened with an 81-41 win over Claremont of Victoria, with five players reaching double digits in scoring.

The Hawks then defeated number six provincially ranked Oak Bay 57-48 in the tournament semi-final. Harvir Gracha scored a team-high 27 points, with Prav Gill adding 10.

Mouat then battled the number three provincially ranked Handsworth Royals, and opened up a 13-4, but trailed 23-20 at halftime. The teams were tied after three quarters, but the Royals pulled away in the fourth to win 57-48. Reis Sekhon and Garcha scored 12 and 11 points respectively in the loss.

Garcha and Gill were both named tournament all-stars. The Hawks won both their home tournament and the Holy Cross tournament in January, and they also won their division at the Abby PD city basketball tournament in December.
