A triple-gold performance from Vikramajit Gondara was the highlight for the Valley Royals track and field club at the B.C. junior development championships in Richmond last week.

Gondara dominated the throwing events in the 13-year-old boys division – his winning performance in the hammer throw (33.14 metres) was nearly 10m further than the second-place finisher. He also won the discus (33.43m) and shot put (9.81m), just ahead of teammate Joel Choboter in both events.

Siblings Parker and Maguire Wakelyn also found themselves on the podium more than once over the three days of competition. Nine-year-old Maguire earned gold medals in the 100m and long jump, along with bronze medals in high jump, shot put and the 60m dash. Parker easily won the 11-year-old boys long jump with a best mark of 4.45m and placed second in the 60m hurdles, and he won five additional bronze medals.

Gabrielle MacGregor demonstrated her versatility by finishing in the top 10 in seven different events. Most notable was her 4:07 clocking in the 1200m, which earned her the gold medal. MacGregor also had a second-place finish in the 800m.

Other noteworthy performances included Parker Janzen (second in the 800m racewalk), Jensen Bako (sixth in the 2000m) and Jaskarn Rai (sixth in shot put).
