Fraser Valley Water Polo clubs earn medals in Calgary

Abbotsford talent helps local team succeed at Water Polo Canada national event

The Fraser Valley Water Polo U15 boys and girls teams returned from Calgary with gold and bronze medals respectively at the World Polo Canada Open Championships.

The event ran from Dec. 2 to 5 in the Alberta city and was the first WPC national event in almost two years.

The Fraser Valley boys team went a perfect 6-0 at the event and defeated the Calgary Wild 13-7 in the final on Dec. 5. They also posted wins over the Edmonton Thunderbirds (32-3 on Dec. 2), the Calgary Torpedoes (35-4 on Dec. 2), Saskatchewan (19-9 on Dec. 3), the Calgary Wild (19-9 on Dec. 3) and CAMO (12-5 on Dec. 4).

Abbotsford players on the boys team include: Parker Forsberg (goalie), Nate Johnson (forward) and Eric Rexha (forward).

The Fraser Valley girls team finished at 6-1 and earned the bronze by edging CAMO-Wave 13-11 on Dec. 5. The team’s only loss was 12-10 to the eventual gold medal winning Saskatchewan team on Dec. 4. Other results were: 13-8 win over the Edmonton Tsunami (Dec. 2), 18-5 win over the Calgary Wild (Dec. 2), 18-11 win over Saskatchewan (Dec. 3), 16-12 win over the Mavericks (Dec. 3) and 19-5 win over the Edmonton Thunderbirds (Dec. 4).

Abbotsford player on the girls team include: Alex Stoddard (goalie) and Amelia Falys (forward).

The FVWP is a high performance club that offers programs for boys and girls aged seven to 19. The club recruits players from Abbotsford, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Coquitlam, Langley, Mission, New Westminster, North Delta, Port Coquitlam, Surrey and White Rock.
