The Abbotsford Heat's goalie depth chart is back to where it was at the start of the season – with three 'tenders battling for time in the crease.
The Heat opened the 2012-13 campaign with Danny Taylor, Barry Brust and Leland Irving jockeying for position, and on Wednesday, the trio was reunited after the Calgary Flames sent Taylor down to Abbotsford.
Taylor had posted a 1-1 record, a 3.00 goals against average and a .912 save percentage in two starts with the Flames, including his first career NHL victory over Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver Canucks last Sunday.
But with Calgary starter Miikka Kiprusoff set to return from injury and Joey MacDonald laying claim to the No. 2 spot since being picked up on waivers from the Detroit Red Wings last month, Taylor was the odd man out.
Taylor's AHL numbers are outstanding – he leads the league with a 1.82 goals against average, and his .929 save percentage ranks fourth overall. His performance with the Heat led to the Flames signing him a two-way NHL contract in early February, after Kiprusoff went down with a lower-body injury.
The Heat (27-24-8, 62 points), coming off a 2-0 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Tuesday, are girding for a three-games-in-three-days gauntlet on the road. They play Friday at Rochester, Saturday at the Toronto Marlies, and Sunday back in Rochester.
