Shooting guard Bradley Braich was on fire from three-point land in national basketball action last week.
The Abbotsford baller was selected as a second-team all-star after a tournament performance with Team BC that saw him net 17 three-pointers — more than any other player in the U15 and U17 divisions at the National Basketball Championships Aug. 3-8.
Braich was part of the 12-man contingent competing among nine other teams featuring their respective province’s best young players.
The coach for the U15 Team BC squad, Bobby Braich, who is also Bradley’s father, said the team’s fifth-place finish was a great experience for the group and a slight improvement on last year’s sixth place result in Edmonton.
Team BC faced Alberta in their final game to claim fifth in the national championships, overcoming the fellow Western Canadian team, 54-45.
Team BC went 2-1 through the round-robin stage, handily beating Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island by more than 30 points, while dropping their game against Saskatchewan.
In the quarterfinals, they lost to Quebec, landing them in the consolation bracket where they defeated the host team Nova Scotia 77-70, to advance to the battle for fifth.
Team Ontario were the U15 boys’ champions.
Bobby coaches the junior basketball team at Yale Secondary, where Bradley is also a student and member of the team.
