Besse sisters impress

Abbotsford siblings finish strong at Provincial Equestrian Vaulting Championships
Emily Besse shows off her skills during the Provincial Equestrian Vaulting Championships in Langley late last month. Besse placed fourth in the Walk C division.

Abbotsford’s Besse sisters impressed the judges and took home some hardware at the Provincial Vaulting Championships in Langley on Sept. 27.

Hailey Besse, 15, won a gold medal in the Trot D division, while Emily Besse, 13, placed fourth in the Walk C division.

Equestrian vaulting is the sport of acrobatics and dance on a moving horse. Competitors are required to do a round of compulsory moves followed by a freestyle set to music.

The pair have trained the past three years with the Triple M vaulting group in Surrey and both girls rode Jake, a 16-year-old Belgian/Fjord gelding.

Both girls attend St. John Brebeuf Secondary School and the next big event for the duo is Oct. 24 in Chilliwack.
