Abby athletes claim track and field medals victory at Upper Fraser Valley Championships

Fraser Valley Track and Field Championships take place next week at Rotary stadium.

Several local athletes claimed victory at last week’s Upper Fraser Valley Championships.

From MEI, Jaden Cole won the Grade 8 boys long jump and the 100- and 200-metres, Hannah Kornelsen won the senior girls 1,500 metres, Hannah Konrad won the senior girls 800 metres, Matthew Welsh won the senior boys 110-metre hurdles, and Tim Bertness won the senior boys pole vault. The school also claimed the Grade 8 4x100 relay crown.

From W.J. Mouat, Vikramjit Gondara won the junior boys discus and hammer throw events, Jayden Driver won the senior boys hammer throw, Alicia Unruh won the senior girls 1,500-metre steeplechase, Joshua Adhemar won the boys 400-metre hurdles, and Devon Kulor won the junior boys pole vault. The school also won the senior boys 4x100 and the junior and senior boys 4x100 relays.

Abbotsford Christian School students also won several events. Cole Brandsma won the Grade 8 boys javelin and triple jump events and tied for the the high jump crown, Emma Conway won the junior girls high jump, Annika Rebel won the Grade 8 girls discus throw, Cameron Vanderveen won the junior boys 1,500 metres, Aaron Postma won the senior boys triple jump, and Cassie Brandsma won the Grade 8 girls triple jump.

From Yale secondary, Nate DeBoer won in the senior boys shot put and Zach Foth won the junior boys javelin.

Rick Hansen’s Valerie Mensah-Wilson won the senior girls 200 metres and the school also claimed the senior girls 4x100 relay.

Next up are the Fraser Valley Track and Field Championships, which take place May 11, 12 and 14 at Rotary Stadium.
