The Yale Lions and MEI Eagles senior boys basketball teams have both earned another banner.

The Lions and Eagles respectively won the 4A and 3A Eastern Valley Athletic Association banners with wins in Langley on Sunday (Feb. 25).

Yale defeated the R.E. Mountain Eagles 118-67 to capture the 4A crown. The Lions were led by Taige Roberts, who drained seven three-point shots and scored 44 points in the win. Nylan Roberts added 35 and was named the EVAA 4A most valuable player. Darius Best added 11 points for the Lions.

The win means that Yale will likely enter the 4A provincials as a top seed. That event runs from March 6 to 9 in Langley.

MEI captured the 3A crown with a 69-66 win over the Brooskwood Bobcats. Eagles player Isaiah Lee was named the EVAA 3A most valuable player, while Nathan Laspa was named a tournament all-star.

MEI will also enter the 3A provincial tournament as a top seed.

Meanwhile, four Abbotsford senior girls basketball teams head to provincials later this week.

The MEI Eagles and Robert Bateman Timberwolves enter the 3A tournament as the fourth and seventh seeds respectively.

The Eagles open on Wednesday (Feb. 28) against Mark R. Isfeld at 11:45 a.m., while the Timberwolves take on W.L. Seaton on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.

Yale enters the 4A tournament as the seventh seed and battles Oak Bay in round one on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.

Over in the 2A tournament, the Abbotsford Christian School Knights are seeded ninth and open against Pacific Academy on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

The tournaments run until Saturday (March 2) and all games occur at the Langley Events Centre.
