The W.J. Mouat Hawks senior girls soccer team took home some hardware at the University of Victoria’s Spring Classic tournament on April 18 and 19.

The Hawks lost their first match (to the eventual A-side winners), but then won the next two games vs. Shawnigan Lake and Dover Bay to qualify for the B-side final.

In the final, which was played on the stadium field, the Hawks prevailed 1-0 in a rematch against Shawnigan Lake. Goal scorer and tournament most valuable player Ella Wilson led the Hawks to the win.

“It was a total team effort by all that led us to victory,” stated Hawks head coach Mike Perry. “The Senior Hawks would like to thank a pivotal sponsor Snowcrest Foods (of Abbotsford), who helped the Hawks get to Victoria to participate in the tournament.”

The Hawks currently sit in first place in the Eastern Valley Athletic Association’s Tier 2 standings with a record of 3-0. The season continues until May 8, with provincials scheduled to begin in late-May.
