A young Abbotsford soccer talent has attracted the attention of the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Chief Dan George Middle School student Megin Turi was named one of nine players from the BC Soccer Premier League to receive an invite to join the Whitecaps Girls Elite Regional EXCEL (REX) program.
The 13-year-old played several years with the Abbotsford Soccer Association, and also played for Surrey United of the BCSPL. Through her strong play in Surrey, she was called up for the BC Soccer High Performance Program, where she was scouted for the Whitecaps REX program.
Turi played under UFV Cascades women’s soccer head coach Rob Giesbrecht in Surrey, and she will begin the Whitecaps REX program in August. She is one of the youngest players involved in the program, and will join the 19 other players already involved. She is the lone Abbotsford soccer talent to receive an invite.
“We’re thrilled to welcome a terrific group of young B.C. players into the program,” said Emma Humphries, Whitecaps FC BC REX head coach and girls academy director. “Through our partnership with BC Soccer, we look forward to continuing to push players on to Canada Soccer’s youth and senior national teams.”
