The Columbia Bible College Bearcats women’s basketball program has added a local veteran university talent.

The Bearcats announced the addition of guard and Yale Secondary grad Julie Dueck to the Pacwest team for the 2024-25 season.

Dueck has spent the last three seasons with the Edmonton-based MacEwan Griffins of the Canada West. The 2021 Yale grad averaged a career-best 3.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game with the Griffins in 2023-24.

“Julie is a strong guard who can really play on both ends of the floor,” stated Bearcats head coach Taylor Claggett. “In her time at the U Sports level she developed an outside shot and has always had the ability to finish at the rim. I’m excited to see how her game translates at the Pacwest level.”

Dueck helped lead the Yale Lions to a bronze medal finish at the 2020 B.C. 4A senior girls provincial tournament.

In other Bearcats news, forward Elissa Vreugdenhil was named an All-Canadian by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association on Tuesday (March 12).

Vreugdenhil was second in the Pacwest with 15.5 points per game and first in rebounds per game at 14.3. She also had the second-best field goal percentage in the league at .456. Vreugdenhil ranked second in blocks per game (1.3) and seventh in assists (3.2).
