Abbotsford’s Dawson Hendriks signs with University of Alberta football program

Robert Bateman Timberwolves football product Dawson Hendriks has signed with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

The defensive and offensive lineman had an excellent Grade 12 season for the Timberwolves, as he was named a AA provincial all-star and collected 49 tackles and seven sacks.

The 6-3, 250-pound athlete was also a provincial all-star in his Grade 11 season and helped Bateman win their first provincial championship in the 2022 season. Hendriks recorded 21 tackles and three sacks in 2022.

He was part of a Bateman team that did not lose a regular season game in his Grade 11 or Grade 12 season. The only game he lost over the past two seasons was a 15-13 loss to the Windsor Wolves in the AA quarterfinal playoff round on Nov. 17, 2023.

According to his Hudl profile, he can deadlift 440 pounds, squat 380 and bench 255. He was able to bench 185 for 18 consecutive reps. Hendriks has a 24.6 inch vertical jump and posted a 40-yard dash time of 5.34 seconds.

He joins an Alberta team that finished in second place in Canada West play in 2023 with a record of 6-2.

The Golden Bears defeated the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 40-17 in the CW semifinal on Nov. 4, 2023, but then lost to the UBC Thunderbirds 28-27 in the Hardy Cup on Nov. 11, 2o23.

The CW football schedule typically begins in early September. It’s possible that Hendriks and the Golden Bears will play against UBC in Vancouver at some point in 2024.
