The CBC Bearcats have added Abbotsford’s Samara Mason and Burnaby’s Jayla Huynh.

The Columbia Bible College Bearcats women’s basketball team is reloading after the most successful season in school history in 2023-24.

The Bearcats recently announced the additions of Abbotsford’s Samara Mason and Burnaby’s Jayla Huynh for the 2024-25 Pacwest season.

Mason is a 2023 Yale Secondary grad and finished up her first season in the Pacwest with the Okanagan College Coyotes. She played in 23 games and averaged 8.6 points and 2.8 rebounds. Mason was named to the Pacwest all-rookie team for her efforts.

She had an excellent high school career at Yale, helping lead the Lions to a fourth place provincial finish in 2023. Mason was also named the BC School Sports Girls 2023 4A tournament’s most outstanding defensive player.

“Samara will make an impact right away on our team, as she can play on both ends of the floor,” stated Bearcats head coach Taylor Claggett. “She is a very efficient shooter from the perimeter and also has the ability to run the floor and get to the rim. We’re excited to have Samara back at home and joining our team this year.”

Huynh is a 2024 Burnaby Central grad and was part of the bronze medal winning Wildcats team in 2023. She helped the Wildcats win the Burnaby-New Westminster city banner in 2024.

“Jayla will be a great addition to our team, on and off the court,” Claggett stated. “She has great court vision and basketball IQ, and will be someone that can confidently bring the ball up the floor for us. She can really shoot the ball from the perimeter and can break her defender down and get into her mid-range shot.”

The pair will join CBC after the team finished with a 14-10 record in the Pacwest regular season, the most wins ever for the program. The Bearcats then lost 79-74 to the Coyotes in the quarter-final round of the playoffs.
