The National A Level event saw Abbotsford athletes participate as members of Team BC and take on competitors from Alberta and Saskatchewan. Team BC earned 55 medals at the event.

The AJC’s Payton Harris earned gold in the U16 male 73 kilograms and over division, and then picked up silver in the U18 male 81 kg class.

Isabelle Harris scored gold in the U18 female 57 kg division, and also earned silver in the senior female advanced 57 kg group.

The other AJC member to win gold was Mitchell Wolfe, who took home top spot in the U21 male 73 kg division. Wolfe also picked up bronze in the senior male advanced 73 kg division.

Other locals earning bronze at the event included Launa Hinton (U18 female, 44 kg) and Turner Cyr (U18 male, 60 kg).

The next local event for the AJC is an open house occurring on Saturday at the club, which is located at 31410 Maclure Rd. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., there will be a free family and friends class that anyone can try out. Ages five and up are welcome for the free beginner level class.

The club also hosts a tournament on Feb. 18; a judo festival for children will be held at the Ag-Rec building in conjunction with the tournament.
