Both the Abbotsford Christian School Knights and MEI Eagles volleyball programs left provincials with banners over the weekend.
The ACS Knights senior boys team was the lone local club to take home a provincial title, taking down Vancouver College 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-23) in the A provincial final in Nanaimo on Saturday (Dec. 11).
Knights player Luc Brandsma was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Knights players Joshua Worsley-Brown and Aiden Brandsma were named first team tournament all-stars.
ACS went 3-1 in round robin play, losing only to Vancouver Christian. The playoffs saw ACS beat Maple Ridge Christian 3-0 and Cedar Christian 3-0 to advance to the finals.
The Knights last won a senior boys provincial volleyball title in 2018.

Meanwhile, the ACS Knights senior girls team had a strong run at the AA provincials at MEI in Abbotsford but ultimately fell short in the finals.
The Knights lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-20 and 25-23) to Notre Dame in Saturday’s final to take home silver.
That game was the lone game all weekend ACS lost, as they went a perfect 3-0 in round robin play. They went on to take down the host Eagles 3-0 and also swept Brentwood. The team entered the final without losing a single set.
MEI finished eighth at the event and also earned the sportsmanship team award.
Knights players named to the first team all-star squad included: Meghan Vaags, Kayla Schuurman and Lauren Bowman. Megan Munroe of ACS was named a second team all-star.
The MEI Eagles senior boys team also took a home banner, earning bronze at the AA tournament in Victoria on Saturday.
The Eagles went 2-1 in round robin play and then beat Revelstoke 3-0 in the opening round of the playoffs but then lost a 3-2 (28-26, 19-25, 25-19, 19-25 and 15-9) heartbreaker to Langley Christian. MEI then bounced back in the bronze medal game with a 3-2 (19-25, 26-24, 19-25, 25-20 and 15-12) win over Pacific Christian.
