Water bill a blatant 'ripoff'

I disagree with John Skorupa’s letter saying larger homes and families should pay more for water than others, in the Jan. 31 paper.

How many others think this is a blatant ripoff?

Why are we one of the only communities to do this? Who gave council the right to impose this? I moved here six years ago because the costs made sense. It was worth it, even though my gas bill skyrocketed, my commute grew, my wife had to quit her job and take a new, lower paying job here, and we both lost friends. Now I am regretting moving here and can’t afford to leave.

Why? My house tax has skyrocketed, yet my house only went up $20,000. Now I am facing another $1000 a year for water, no matter how much my family of four saves water – buying a new front load washer, installing low-flush toilets, not flushing the toilet, not running water, not letting the kids play outside with water – the list is endless.

I simply cannot afford this new tax, so what happens now? I don’t put food in my kids’ mouths so I can feed our council, who by the way, just got a nice raise and somehow our Mayor gets $700 a month to drive around Abby? Can’t he use transit? Oh right, it sucks. I really want to know how much money the council is cashing in every two months.
