LETTER: Stabilizing the homeless situation

Does it matter where we build this housing shelter, or that we are helping people get off the street?

In response to letter by Gertie Pool: “Housing for homeless near downtown is ludicrous

Does it matter where we build this housing shelter, or that we are helping people get off the street?

No matter where it goes, there will be access to drugs and there will be people “loitering.”

This housing project is to help stabilize the homeless situation in Abbotsford. It is actually doing the opposite of creating non-working loitering individuals in our downtown core.

By building this housing project we are taking people off the streets, therefore creating less loitering.

This housing project could also be enough to help some non-working individuals to get back on their feet and possibly get a job or give back to our community in a different way.

Something people are forgetting is that although it’s some people’s choice to be where they are, not everyone chooses to be homeless and on the street.

When we do good and give, we can’t always expect something in return, but it is not fair to assume a bunch of problems will arise because it could also have some really good benefits as well.
