LETTER: Public school made a difference

The dedication of the public school teaching staff to ensure my son thrived was unparalleled and still is to this day...

A response to Ms. Roukema's letter "Private school is worth the money". I am glad that you have found an educational environment where your children are thriving. That is the most important thing.

I, however, had the opposite experience with private school. I can honestly say that it was the most horrible, demoralizing experience of my son's life. I spent many a night crying because of the chronic negative feedback I received from the teachers at this private school. I made the decision to remove my child from private school and put him into public school.

The change was immediate. The dedication of the public school teaching staff to ensure my son thrived was unparalleled and still is to this day. Six years later, my son still recounts how he was treated by the teachers and how the other children were allowed to treat him poorly and without consequence. Today, he is a happy, thriving middle school student. Private school? No thank you!
