LETTER: City landscaping a costly effort

On average, there were four to six people working, with numerous trips to empty the little trailer with the weeds that were pulled out.

I couldn’t help notice that the City of Abbotsford was really busy for six days on the island in front of my office on the corner of West Railway and Riverside.

On average, there were four to six people working there, with numerous trips to empty the little trailer with the weeds that were pulled out.

If I take an average of 18 to 20 dollars an hour, just for the six days it adds up to $4,300 to $5,700 – benefits not included – and I am pretty sure this is not the only island the City of Abbotsford has to maintain.

I think it would have been more useful to make it a parking lot like it used to be. Probably a lot cheaper, but it seems to me that the city has an unlimited amount of money, and even if they would run out they can always increase the property taxes of the citizens of Abbotsford.

Last year when it was put in place, the city put a lot of effort in to put new plants in and maintain them by sending the water truck by almost every day. Well, guess what, only about two-thirds of the shrubs survived, if that.
