A water rip-off

I don’t mind paying for water usage, but when the city rips you off with their billing like they did with my household where there are four adults, that’s when I get upset.

Our July/Aug bill was $90, which we felt was legitimate. Then we received our Sept/Oct bill which had doubled.

I contacted the city regarding our bill and they emailed a graph of our high water usage days.

From there we were able to work out how many gallons we used, and what days were the high usage days.

They claimed we used 5,000 gallons over three non-consecutive days which, unless we had a swimming pool or were irrigating acreage, it would be virtually impossible.

And of those three days, we were not home on two of them. They then proceeded to tell me I had a leaky toilet valve, which it would be very talented if it only leaked on those three days.

So they checked my meter to see if we had any leaks at our house and guess what, no leaks.

They did amend my bill by using the same litres of water just using the lower tier. We did not use the 5,000 extra gallons, so why would we pay anything for it?

We just received the bill for Nov/Dec and it was even less than the first bill.

People, check your bills.

All of our friends have the same issue for their Sept/Oct bill and are waiting for their graphs.

There is no way that we used 5,000 extra gallons of water over those three days yet we still have to pay for them.
