Stanley WORTHINGTON

WORTHINGTON, Stanley. Passed away peacefully on Oct. 11, 2011 at the age of 87, in White Rock, BC. Stan was preceded by his wife (of 62 years) Violet Worthington (nee Schultz), parents Percy & Doris (nee Jones) Worthington. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Frank (Gladys) Worthington, Tom (Winona) Worthington, Betty Worthington. Brothers-in-law: Rudolph (Louise) Schultz, Albert (Carrie) Schultz, Elmer, (Myrtle) Schultz, Adolph (Martha) Schultz, Ottomar (Dorothea) Schultz, Paul (Mildred) Schultz, Edward Schultz, Sisters-in-law: Pauline (George) Rathgeber and Edna (Ted) Sobkowich. Stan is survived by his brother Percy Worthington, Winnipeg, MB, sister Dorothy Worthington, Portage la Prairie, MB, sister-in-law Evelyn Schultz, Fort Qu’Apelle, SK, nephew Mark (Regina) Worthington, Australia, nieces Teri (Kevin) Worthington Coombs, Toronto, ON, and Tanya (Bob) Worthington-Mitchell, Carmen, MB, grand nieces Mikila & Alexa Mitchell and numerous nephews and nieces in Violet’s family.

Born Dec 12, 1923, in Warrington, England, moved to Canada in 1926 and settled in Brandon, MB. Stan enlisted in the army in 1939 at the age of 16. He served in Canada, UK, central Mediterranean, N. Africa and Europe. His services included an anti-tank regiment and telegraph operator. He served until 1946 and moved to BC in 1947 to further his education. In 1947 Stan met Violet and they married July 10, 1948 in Violet’s home town of Hubbard, SK. They lived in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Deep Cove, and resided in Abbotsford for the past 35 years. In early 2011 Stan and Violet moved to Surrey BC. Stan started his healthcare career as director of finance at North Vancouver General Hospital (Lion’s Gate) in 1953. During his career Stan continued his studies in Hospital Administration and Executive Management enabling him to achieve the position of Administrator for the MSA General Hospital in Abbotsford where he served from 1970-1988. Stan was also a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Abbotsford 1975/1976 ...“To Dignify the Human Being”. A Memorial Service was held at Westminster House, 1653 - 140 St., Surrey, on Oct 18, 2011, at 11:00 am. Flowers gratefully declined.
